Closed alpha testing on Google Play

Before mobiCut can be published on Google Play, it has to pass a closed test with real testers. This page says what you’ll need and what to do, step by step.

The closed alpha hasn’t started yet. There’s nothing to install from Google Play today. Once it starts, I’ll notify every tester with the opt-in link and your code.

The important bits

Stay opted in for 14 days in a row. Google counts only testers who stay in the test for 14 consecutive days. Leaving even for a day restarts the count, so please plan for 16–18 days to be safe. Keep the app installed and open it now and then.

You get Pro for life. Before testing starts, I’ll send you a promo code for lifetime Pro. It stays on your Google account after the test, also after a reinstall or on a new phone.

Before the test starts

  1. Check your Google account. Only the account whose e-mail I have can join, so it must be the one signed in to the Play Store on your phone. If it’s a different one, let me know.
  2. Prepare a test video: record 1–2 minutes of anything on your phone (a walk, your pet, a ride). Keep it in the gallery.
  3. Optional: a soundtrack. Download a free track, for example from Pixabay Music, and keep it on the phone.
  4. Wait for my e-mail. It has the opt-in link and your lifetime Pro code.

Join and install

  1. Uninstall the APK version of mobiCut, if you have it. The Play version is signed differently and won’t install over it. Don’t tick Keep app data.

    If you installed mobiCut from the APK, your projects won’t carry over to the Google Play version. Your original and exported videos stay in the gallery.

  2. On the phone, open the opt-in link from my e-mail, signed in with the same Google account.
  3. Tap Become a tester.
  4. Tap download it on Google Play, then Install.
  5. Open mobiCut → ⚙ Settings. It should say Edition: Free.

Test Free first

Don’t redeem the code yet. Once it’s redeemed, the account is Pro for good and there’s no way back to Free. Most users will run Free, so it needs testing too.

  1. Create a project from your test video.
  2. Try split, delete, speed, a text, a picture and your soundtrack.
  3. Check that Pro features show the orange PRO badge and are locked, and that Fade out-in is the only transition.
  4. Export. The video should have the small mobiCut logo in the top right corner.

Redeem the code and test Pro

  1. Redeem your code, either way:
    • Open the link https://play.google.com/redeem?code=YOURCODE (your code in place of YOURCODE), or
    • Play Store → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Redeem code → type the code → Redeem.
  2. Open mobiCut → ⚙ Settings. It should now say Edition: PRO and Pro · lifetime. If not, close mobiCut and open it again.
  3. Try the Pro extras: an Interleave transition and a second video in the project.
  4. Export. The video should have no logo.

During the test

  • Stay opted in for 16–18 days. Don’t tap Leave the program in the Play Store.
  • Keep mobiCut installed and use it a few times.
